Bar Stools Extra Seating

by: Kathryn Whittaker

Today’s kitchen can become a complete entertainment center thanks to a sleek kitchen and bar furniture, including a breakfast area with a stylist breakfast bar and bar stools. Many people remodel their kitchens to accommodate a small bar area where they can grab a bite to eat before work or entertain friends with cocktails at a dinner party.

The kitchen has become more than a place to cook due to new technologically advanced appliances and less traditional furniture. Space-saving appliances such as ovens and microwaves combined not only reduce cooking time but save a lot of space too.

With more space, smart homeowners have more space to accommodate an additional seating area to satisfy their entertaining style. It could be another table, a counter with stylish bar stools, or even a couple of lounge chairs.

If you decide to create a little bar area in your kitchen, you need to find the best location for it. Many people disassemble one wall and install a bar counter instead, or leave two pillars and a four-foot riser to be used as a counter. The bar area should not block the traffic in the kitchen. That’s why the best location for it is near the wall, or if that’s not possible, then on an island in the middle of the kitchen.

A bar counter in the middle of the kitchen requires some space around it for comfortable seating and allow the kitchen to function properly. Don’t fall prey for tricky salespeople who may try to sell you a counter with cabinets bigger than your kitchen can accommodate! The access corridor around the bar area should not be less than 3 ft wide.

Luckily, contemporary bar stools require much less space than their traditional counterparts usually seen in restaurants and pubs. Bar stools for home use are much lighter and more artistic in color and style. Since people spend less time at their home bar than behind a table, contemporary bar stools are usually backless or have a very low ergonomically designed back. The most popular ones are swivel, with sturdy legs. Contemporary bar stools can be made of aluminum, fiberglass, or metal.

There are many bar stool options available on the internet. Customers can choose specific heights, colors, wood color and type and seating fabrics for bar stools creating full custom sets. Customers can also choose from free samples of fabrics and other upholstery types, finishes and wood samples. This way, you can have a set of bar stools to perfectly match your current home style. There are web sites that allow you to send in your own fabric to be used as upholstery for the bar stool set.

A great finishing touch to your bar area is to install a radio or small TV in to watch while you cook, eat a quick meal or relax over drinks.

Bedroom Wallpaper Style

by: George Anderson

Sometimes, too much diversity can be overwhelming, and you often feel this when you are looking for wallpaper. Millions of online resources offer you hundreds of thousands of wallpaper styles, patterns, colors and textures. Books and video tutorials also cover this topic very well. However, you also need to make the process as efficient as possible. Here are a few tips that will help you choose your wallpaper accurately and without spending too much time shopping around.

One of the best moves is to ask for help directly from the store. You might be looking for a particular pattern or wallpaper motif, and the seller will have catalogs where he or she will help you find the right choice. Most good stores have complete index books with thousands of wallpaper styles and colors, so it is very likely that what you are looking for will be found. It also helps to know beforehand what kind of wallpaper category you want to purchase. You can get a classical wallpaper or one for the kitchen, kid’s room, textured wallpaper and so on. Obtain the main categories from the seller, and you will be able to easily browse through them in the index books.

In order to match wallpaper colors with the other elements in the room, it helps to be able either to take a piece of fabric similar to your carpet to the store so that you can compare and contrast colors on the spot, or to take an indexing book back home and make the decision there. Remember that your wallpaper will cover the largest area of the room, often around 60% or 70% of the entire room surface, so your choice is vital for the overall visual aspect of the room. Make sure that your chosen color and texture also fits with the carpet, tiling and furniture.

The single most important element in choosing a wallpaper for your home is to determine the color. As you know, color symbolism is a powerful tool for creating a certain mood. Green, for example, is the most relaxing color for our eyes, thus producing an overall effect of calmness and peace. Of course, different hues of green can trigger different emotions – a florescent green is not refreshing for the eyes, but it might look good in the kids’ room. Unless you have light colored furniture, dark wallpaper colors are not recommended. They tend to be more practical, since they don’t show dirt as easily as light colored ones, but they also tend to make the room darker and give it a museum-like feel.

Once you have decided on the color and texture, it is time to request samples of that particular wallpaper material. Never make the purchase on the spot. Instead, take the samples home and test them under different lighting conditions. A color that looks amazing in sunlight might be terrible under neon or artificial light. If you are really careful about choosing your wallpaper style and decorating your home, such picky tests are necessary.

Fine Art For Your Bedroom Decoration

by: Susan G Phillips

If you don't have at least one piece of fine art in your home, then you just have no idea what you are missing out on. Whether an original or reproduction piece, fine art adds warmth, beauty and interest to every room. So why is it that people tend to spend lavishly on furniture, carpets and accessories, but do not provide in their budget for the piece that could be the focal point of the room?

We are indeed fortunate now to have a wide range of fine art available to us on the Internet. In just a few short hours, you can browse museums and galleries around the world to find the fine art painting you love. Reproductions of major artwork are available in several formats, from inexpensive prints to hand-painted oils. All at the touch of a button. You can also find original fine art online, often very inexpensively. Artists who have not yet become famed can exhibit their work at online galleries and reach a much wider audience than would be otherwise possible in smaller bricks and mortar galleries. Bringing a new piece of art into your home is always exciting, but imagine how much more intriguing it would be if it was something you'd discovered for yourself through your own research.

While prints will brighten up a room, you should also consider investing in a real oil painting or another form of original on canvas. Since the Internet allows galleries to show their work to a wide audience with little overhead, real paintings can be had for very reasonable prices. And you'll find the texture and substance of a painting as opposed to a print to be well worth the added expense. Home decor is a challenge for many home owners so the hardest part is not necessarily coming up with the theme, but tying it all together and making all of the colors, textures and themes combine. In order to decorate your home successfully there are a few things for you to consider.

First decide what your budget is. Having a budget will help you apportion money to the right areas and ensure that you have enough to finish the job. Next choose a style and make a plan. Decide the style of theme you want for your room or home decor. Do you want a modern or oriental tone? Once this is established you can pick the colors you want to use. Do you want the room to be calming or energizing? Colors have a very influential impact on our moods and feelings. You can then decide on the furniture and accessories you wish to use. This is a good time to select the art or prints you wish to feature. Make sure that the print is reflective of the theme of the room. Do not buy art just because it ties the colors in the room together. Art is a powerful medium that is used to invoke emotion, feeling, and thought so the emotion the art projects should be aligned with the feeling of the room

Loft Bunk Beds Benefits

by: Seth Miller

A loft bunk bed is technically defined as a bunk bed in which the top of the mattress is more than three feet from the floor. As such, virtually all bunk beds are actually loft bunk beds under this definition.

In use, however, loft bunk beds often have simply one twin bed on top with nothing underneath. In addition, they are typically more self-contained in that they include many other features and/or furniture items that typically reside in a bedroom. For instance, loft bunk beds can include both a desk and drawers underneath the twin bed on top.

Loft bunk beds, like other bunks, save space and add a creative element to a bedroom. Choices of ladders typically exist, from straight-up ladders to angled ladders. The angled ladders are generally safer, but take up more floor space.

In addition to loft bunk beds, futon bunk beds are convenient because they have the dual functionality of serving as a couch. As such, futon bunk beds represent the ultimate in space savings. They allow you to have two beds and a couch all within just a few square feet of floor space.

Loft beds are a viable alternative to traditional beds and other bunk beds. These beds can be purchased both online and offline and many options are available with regards to styles and colors. The beds are typically available in both wood and metal construction

Right Vacuum Cleaner For Bedroom Cleaning

by: Catherine Olivia

According to history, the first vacuum cleaner actually wasn't a vacuum cleaner at all, it was a carpet sweeper. The inventor was a man by the name of Daniel Hess who in 1860 patented a machine that had rotating brushes on the bottom and bellows to generate suction. There is however no evidence that this machine was ever produced. It would be some forty plus years later, in 1908, that Mr. James Spangler of Canton, Ohio would receive a patent for the first electric portable vacuum cleaner. And, it was his cousin-in-law, William Hoover, who lent his name to the legendary company that still produces vacuums today.

For more than one hundred and forty years the vacuum cleaner has been improved upon. Whether you are doing your weekly vacuuming of your home, doing a thorough spring cleaning (including vacuuming the furniture, and all the dust balls that have gathered behind it), or, leaving the vacuuming up to the robot, there is a vacuum suited to your need. Upright or canister, hepa filtered, bagged or bagless, there is an endless array of vacuums on the market today.

A vacuum actually cleans in two ways. The first, and the job we rate a vacuum on most is how the vacuum actually picks up debris and dirt from a carpet, or floor. When you are looking for a vacuum keep in mind the power of the suction motor, this is critical for good performance. The second, and not so often thought about, is how well the vacuum filters the air it puts back into the home. For those with allergy problems a hepa vacuum might be the best choice. Some of these hepa vacuums can filter out over 99'f pollens, household dust and other allergens.

Then, there is the choice of canister or upright vacuum. This is strictly based on personal preference. Both types of vacuums have pluses and minuses. Canister vacuum heads will be able to reach under your furniture, and will be easier to use when vacuuming the stairs. Canister vacuums generally have a retractable electrical cord, which is much more convenient than wrapping the cord back around the vacuum neck. It is easier to push the lightweight vacuum head of a canister as opposed to pushing an upright vacuum. Some say they prefer to have the vacuum in front of them, which is why they like an upright. They don't like dragging the vacuum behind them. Upright vacuum cleaner bags tend to be larger than bags used in canister vacuums so they need to be changed less frequently.

Upholstery Cleaning Tips

by: Bobby Walker

Cleaning your own upholstery can be very rewarding if done properly. I will give you the knowledge and steps to take for good results on any type of fabric that you are cleaning.

If you have cotton upholstery or a cotton blend, I would strongly suggest to let a professional clean it. Cotton fabric is not easy to clean, especially for a beginner.

Here are some supplies you will need to clean your upholstery. Most of these supplies can be purchased at Home Depot, but some you will have to buy at your local "Carpet Supply Store."

1. Wet/Dry Vacuum
2. (Very Soft) Nylon Bristle Hand Brush
3. Foaming Upholstery Shampoo
4. Haitian Cotton Shampoo (for cotton only)
5. Vinegar & Water Mix (50/50)
6. Terry Cloth Towels (white)

If you are not sure if your fabric is cotton, cut a small sample of the fabric from the bottom of the skirting and light it with a match or cigarette lighter. Once the fabric is on fire, immediately put it out with your fingers. If you notice some black soot on your fingers, you have some cotton in the fabric. If there is no soot, then it is polyester or other synthetic fibers.

For cotton, read the directions on the back of the cotton shampoo for mixing instructions. You want to put the shampoo mix in a squirt bottle and set the nozzle to a fine mist.

You will also want to do a small test area with your solution to see if the fabric is going to bleed or brown out. Spray the fabric, take your nylon brush and stroke the fabric in the same direction as the weave. Do not go against the weave, this will possibly undo the weave and make the fabric look fuzzy. Then vacuum the section you sprayed. Take your vinegar/water solution and spray the same area and vacuum again.

If you see that the fabric is not bleeding or browning after an hour or so, then you will probably be ok and can continue with your cleaning. Make sure to vacuum the fabric several times to remove as much moisture as possible. If you can clean the furniture outside in the sun, that would be best case scenario.

Use these steps to clean: Spray small area, scrub with brush, extract with vacuum, spray with vinegar and extract with vacuum. Repeat these steps until you are completely finished with the furniture.

If you are cleaning polyester or other synthetic fabrics, you will follow the same cleaning procedure, only you will use the foaming shampoo instead of the Haitian Cotton detergent.

Wall Mural Kits Guide

by: Steve Valentino

Wall murals are an easy and inexpensive way to decorate your home. They can personalize and brighten any room, and, perhaps best of all, can be done by almost anyone. Even if you feel you have no artistic talent, you can design and paint a wall mural to be proud of and show to all your guests. Look for inspiration in your favorite books, greeting cards, or art. You can also incorporate words, like favorite quotes, into your murals.

Wall mural kits have made it even easier to create a beautiful wall mural. Wall mural kits exist for almost any type of mural, big or small. The smallest kits contain stencils for room accents, like butterflies, bugs, flowers, or stars. These kits provide an easy introduction into creating wall murals because they are small and don’t require much planning. Themed wall mural kits, each with several stencils, start at around $30. Border wall mural kits are another easy way to decorate a room. They can accent furniture or woodwork and look cute painted on children’s furniture. Most border kits cost around $5.

You can also buy large wall mural kits. These kits will help you paint a mural on one large wall. The murals are usually around eight by five feet. Children’s wall mural kits are particular popular. You can find stencils with construction equipment, cowboys, castles, dance, garden, and animal themes, for instance. Large wall mural kits cost around $30. Many of the large wall mural kits also have matching accessory kits, like a wall border or dresser knobs.

Parents wave how much their children love the murals they created using wall mural kits. Adult wall mural kits are a bit harder to find and more difficult to do, for the most part. Children’s wall murals can look like cartoons, but adult wall murals are generally subtler and take more artistic talent. You can, however, borrow aspects of children’s wall mural kits for in your own home, or use the kits to create a rustic, homey feel.
